It’s normal to feel a little anxious or nervous about your photo session. Most everyone does. But don’t worry, we’ll keep it fun and relaxed. Here are some tips to help you prepare for a fabulous session.
You’re beautiful. And we want to capture you at your best.
Great hair helps make great photos. You’ll want to look your best, so avoid getting new hair styles, colors, or cuts just before your photo session. Plan ahead, and style your hair days or weeks ahead to be sure you like it.
For most girls, giving your hair lots of body helps your photos sing. When your hair looks good, you feel good. And when you feel good, your photos will shine! The camera loves big hair. You’ll be enjoying these beautiful images, and seeing them on the wall for years. Plan accordingly.
We welcome and encourage professional hair and make-up before your session.
Make-up is highly recommended, (well, maybe not for the guys) even if you don’t wear it daily. We don’t recommend over doing your make-up, but for “most” girls, just slightly more make-up than normal looks great in photos. If you already like heavy make-up, be careful not to over do. You may consider using less.
Yes, add a little color, gloss, and shine. Subtle reds and berry colors are great. Bring some variety if you like.
Well groomed eyebrows are a must. Waterproof mascara and a little eyeliner will enhance your eyes. Remember, just like your hair style, make sure it looks like you.
If you wear glasses most of the time, you’ll probably want them in your photos. The glass or lens can give hard reflections, so we recommend “borrowing” a pair of empty frames from your optometrist, or having them remove the lens from your own glasses. If you can’t do that, we’ll still get great photos, but they’ll be much better without lens.
You’ll want to wear clothes that flatters you, of course. Bring clothes that you feel good in, the clothes that you love, and that complement your personality. Remember, you’re the model during your photo session. Some seniors shop for new clothes for their photo session, but you likely already have everything you need.
You’ll be moving around during your session… sitting, standing, moving, perhaps lying down, so bring clothes that allow you to do that while you’re looking great.
We love variety. Beautiful dresses, formals, casual clothes, sweaters, jackets, jeans, shorts… they all have their place. Guys, a suit or jacket paired with jeans is a great option, even if you don’t think you’d want that. If you don’t bring it, we can’t photograph you wearing it. Bring more outfits than you think we can use. Did we say variety? Remember, you’ll want outfits and looks that your parents, grand-parents, AND you will all love.
Plan ahead. Take an hour or two with a friend or parent and put on a private fashion show. Lay it all out ahead of time. You’ll be glad you did.
