We understand that family portraits can sometimes be a harried time, and we want to help you and your family to look their very best. Here are a few tips that can help you look (and feel!) wonderful during your session with us.
What to wear: Purple or blue? Pastels or earth tones? Go ahead and bring some options! Simply put, dress how you’d like to be seen and remembered. Be authentically you and be comfortable.
Some coordination is great, and can really bring you together. Think about what everyone is wearing. Try selecting a style or color scheme (earth or jewel tones, different shades of blue and yellow, etc, etc.) and go from there.
You may also want to consider where you plan to display your portrait in your home: reds and pinks might match your kitchen canisters, while shades of green light up the family den. Bold colors make for fantastic photos, but bold patterns and big logos can easily distract. Texture and layers play a huge role as well: silk and denim, a chunky knitted scarf, ribbed tights, a delicate hairband. Layering a cardigan or adding a scarf can change the feel of the photo. Bare feet are also, always, fun!
Children: Most importantly, especially for young children, let us work around your nap and snack schedule! Coaxing out the perfect smile is easier with a content and happy child. Feel free to bring snacks (preferably not mouth-staining) and other bribes to our session as well. A little lotion on dry skin and lips works wonders, and we’ll always pause to wipe a nose.
What to bring: nail polish, lotion, and lipstick/lip gloss for touch ups, hair clips or bobby pins in case the wind picks up, and a few changes of clothes and some accessories to switch out. Please bring props and favorite toys: that jump rope, costume or red wagon can make for the perfect photo. The family dog is also welcome, but may need to be leashed for some shots.
Anything else?: Bring yourselves, and bring your smiles! We’ll take care of the rest.
